HISTORY

The Road to Now.

Ben Campbell has been mimicking voices since he was a toddler.   As a child, he loved to imitate his favorite cartoon characters, especially Popeye, Wimpy, Scooby Doo and Fat Albert. He gained teenage popularity imitating his teachers (the football coach of his high school held him up by his collar and threatened to beat him up after he did an impression of him at a pep rally). He has been cracking up his family and friends forever.

Ben took this “parlor trick” talent and performed stand-up at a comedy club in Nashville (Zanie’s) in the 80s, under a different name and using a military ID he borrowed from a friend, since he was underage. After winning a color television set in the Ole Miss Student Talent show doing impressions, Ben decided to pursue a career in entertainment. He changed his major to Broadcasting and hasn’t looked back.

Fresh out of college, Ben worked as a camera operator for Bagwell Communications in Knoxville, Tennessee. Specifically, he served as “Camera 3 Director” on the nationally syndicated cable show “Club Dance”, which featured a weekly square dance. Ben received fan mail from prison inmates who were grateful for his long camera locks on the skirt twirlers that rounded his corner. He still has those letters framed. He often did his impressions in the Bagwell break room, which led to him landing the graveyard shift as a DJ on Knoxville’s KVIK. He was partnered with another young gun there, Brian Egan, and that launched Ben’s radio personality career.

“Ben & Brian” had morning shows in the new country format in Lexington, KY; Phoenix, AZ (where they won “Major Market Personalities of the Year” at the CMAs); and in Washington, D.C.  Ben & Brian also had a Country Countdown show managed by Dick Clark, the master of countdown announcers, that was nationally syndicated.  And as a duo they produced three comedy albums with bits from their shows.

Ben Campbell has since partnered with two teams on KNIX radio in Phoenix, AZ.   The Ben & Matt Show, where he was partnered with Matt McAlistar (winning a slew of national awards) and the Tim, Ben & Brooke Show with Tim Hattrick and Brooke Hoover.
